About Me Meme
pope pius

Sanctus Belle who blogs over at Our Lady's Tears has tagged me for the About Me Meme. I'm finally getting around to it...so here goes:
(By the way, here for the first time are photos of me and my family)
1. Male or Female: Female.
2. Married or Single or Religious: Married (next month it will be 17 years).
3. Dream vacation: I'm kind of a homebody, so I don't think about vacations often (plus I'm not a big fan of airplanes). I guess I'd like to go to the Holy Land, or some Catholic pilgrimage. I love American history, so I'd like to visit Jamestown and Colonial Williamsburg some day too. Boston and the NAPA Valley wine country would also be nice.
4. Birthplace: Pottsville, but grew up in Schuylkill Haven, (Schuylkill County) Pennsylvania. (Diocese of Allentown)
5. Area I live in currently: Dakota County, Minnesota. (Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis)
6. Someone you wish you could meet: Jesus.
7. Biggest "pet-peeve": Un-sharpened pencils are a huge annoyance for me. I like a sharp point on my pencil. Another pet-peeve: I don't like others drinking my drink (my husband and kids know not to touch my beverage)...Backwash, YUCK!
8. Favorite Religious devotion: Divine Mercy Chaplet.
9. Favorite Saint (besides the Blessed Mother): Long time fav is St. Therese, the Little Flower. More recently it's Saint Gianna Molla.
10. Favorite sport that you play: I don't play sports these days (I was a softball player in high school), though I do try to get to the gym more often these days. Read: Getting In Shape.
11. Favorite food: Anything with shrimp. Salty snacks, like Fritos, Doritos and Cheetos - are yummy, but these days I have to watch my salt intake, due to hypertension.
12. Tridentine or Novus Ordo: I've been to a few Latin masses, but I'm accustomed to the "New" mass.
13. Would you (or are you) home schooling or public school: We have done a little of everything. Our older daugher went to Catholic school for grades K-3, and our older son went for grades K-1. Then we did homeschool for three years (Sept 2003 to May 2006). Our family grew last year (see below), so we put all the kids in public school. We are pleased with our school district.
14. How many kids do you have: Four, soon to be five - [Daughter (14), Son (11), Daughter (six), Son (four)]. Back in August 2006, I wrote Our Forever Family Grows on my second blog, Easing Into My Day. In that post I talk about our new fost / adopt kids, ages six and four. We are very close to finalizing their adoption. We have agreed to take their two year old sister, who is currently in foster care down south. We are hoping that she will come to live with us very soon. I'll keep you posted.
15. Ever been in an auto accident: Does not putting on my emergency brake, and letting my 1977 Chevy Chevette role down the driveway count? Probably not...but it did result in damage to my stepfather's car. On a more serious note - August 2006, an 11 year old boy came out into traffic (on his bike), and I hit him. His ankle got the worst of it...and his head hit the sideview mirror. It was a scary situation, and these things just seem to happen so fast.
16. Ever seen a Pope in person: No.
17. Languages that you know fluently: English.
18. Last movie you saw in theatres: Reign Over Me, starring Adam Sandler. The movie was ok, but I actually fell asleep - not because it was boring, but because it was a late show. To top it off, after they showed the previews, the screen went blank, and we sat there waiting for about 20 minutes until they started the movie. My husband griped, and got our money back. All's well that ends well.
19. Favorite Blog: I don't have ONE favorite...but the blogs I have listed on the sidebar are the ones I enjoy.
20. Your thoughts on Barney, the Easter bunny, and Santa Claus: I really don't mind Barney. That may be due to the fact that I've gotten kids when they were a little older, and they were just not interested in the purple dinosaur. Our kids have been told time and time again that the Easter Bunny and Santa are not the primary focus of those two holidays. I just can't dig the Easter Bunny, and I absolutely hate pastel colors. I have a soft spot for Santa, and I can't resist an annual reading (or two) of A Visit from St. Nicholas, by Clement C. Moore.
One last thing...check out my third blog, House Painted Red...My Country Home in the Burbs. It's a work in progress, as are all my blogs.
I tag Steven at McEvoy's Musings, Christine at The World...IMHO, Lynne at A Quiet Catholic, and whoever else wants to play.
