Getting In Shape

Over the past few weeks my husband and I have been working with a personal trainer. We decided it was time to get back into shape after a long hiatus. Now - medicine balls, hand weights, and resistant bands are our new friends. For this out-of-shape gal, every squat and stomach exercise results in a number of gripes and groans. I curse each and every Krispy Kreme donut and fancy coffee drink I've ever consumed. One thing is for sure, thought. Over time the exercises will get easier, and I will get in better shape...provided I keep with it. Our wonderful bodies, made by the Creator, can easily bounce back into shape with some hard work.

Isn't that how it works with our spiritual lives too? After a hiatus from regular prayer, we may find ourselves griping and groaning as we try to reconnect with God. We may even find ourselves cursing (funny choice of words, huh!) each and every selfish moment we took, each and every unkind word we spoke, each and every sin we did not avoid.

All is not lost, though. We can take baby-steps as we work on getting back into spiritual shape. We will make progress as long as we keep with it - and as long as we make an effort everyday to talk to God, listen to God, and read God's word in scripture. Oh...and let's not forget about getting back to confession, and regular reception of communion. Our beautiful souls, made by the Creator, can bounce back into shape with God's grace, and some perseverance on our part.

Good post. I'm working out now too. Plus, I'm always working on my Life in Christ.
