Why a Blog On Catholic Devotions?

Ok...here I am...a forty-something cradle Catholic, a wife and homeschool mom, and an unemployed librarian, who has chosen to make her first blog about devotional practices in the Roman Catholic faith. But why the Church's devotions? It's not like I'm an expert on the subject, that's for sure, and it's not what I initially intended. I was setting my sites on doing a "Catholic mommy blog." You know the kind - a personal blog about my life experiences as they pertain to my vocation. It seemed like a safe and easy way to dip my big toe into the wading pool of blogdom.

Of course a 'catchy' title was needed, and Too Many Devotions...So Little Time came to mind. I started to reflect on my favorite devotions (some of which I don't practice nearly enough!), and I began to muse about the vast number of devotional practices that I was unfamiliar with. I thought, "If only I had the time," - the time to practice my devotions more ardently, and the time to learn about new practices. At that moment it became clear that my blog would be devoted (pun intended) to Catholic devotions. With the word Too in the original title it could have given the impression that I was complaining about the number of devotions in the Church. For that reason I have renamed the blog So Many Devotions...So Little Time, a more fitting title.

With this blog I am hoping to investigate the riches of our Catholic worship traditions. It will not be a scholarly work, but I do plan to research the various devotions and write about what I have explored. I also plan to survey and/or interview my friends about their practices. The librarian part of me wants to use this blog as a pathfinder of sorts...a springboard to lead others to resources on the many rituals and rites of the Catholic faith.

Why blog at all?
My desire to blog is not so much that I want to keep up with the 'virtual' Joneses, but rather, to challenge myself to do something completely different, if not intimidating. With that said...let the blogging begin!

Interesting to see that there are so many Roman Catholic bloggers out there! I'm Roman Catholic myself and have just started blogging but not about the religion. More about my life actually. Incidentally, I'm from Singapore and am a working mother and wife too. I am amazed at all of you who share such intellectual thoughts about Catholicism that I am ashamed that I cannot do it myself. Sometimes I get lost amid all the theological sayings! Guess I'm not that smart as I never went to the Uni. However, keep it up. I know I should pray but don't do it often enough. There is much to be said about gaining strength in prayer. God Bless, Anita (email: fancher@pacific.net.sg)
